Louisville

Louisville (usually pronounced ; see Pronunciation below) is Kentucky's largest city. It is ranked as either the 17th or 27th largest city in the United States depending on how the population is calculated (see Nomenclature, population and ranking below). The settlement that became the City of Louisville was founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark and is named after King Louis XVI of France. Louisville is famous as the home of "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports": the Kentucky Derby, the widely watched first race of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.

Louisville est la plus grande ville de l'État du Kentucky aux États-Unis. Elle est située dans le nord du Kentucky, le long de la rivière Ohio qui fait office de frontière avec l'État voisin de l'Indiana. Louisville est le siège du comté de Jefferson et son agglomération s'étend jusqu'au sud de l'Indiana, ce qui lui vaut le surnom de Kentuckiana. D'un point de vue statistique, l'agglomération appartient donc aux deux États. Avec ses habitants, appelés Louisvillians, elle est classée en 27 position des villes les plus peuplées du pays en 2006.

Louisville [] ist die größte Stadt im US-Bundesstaat Kentucky in den Vereinigten Staaten und liegt an der Grenze zu Indiana am Ohio River. Sie wurde 1778 von George Rogers Clark gegründet, der sie nach König Ludwig XVI. von Frankreich benannte und ist gleichzeitig Sitz der County-Verwaltung (County Seat). In Louisville befindet sich die Southeast Christian Church, eine der größten Kirchen der USA.
