Long Island is an island located in the southeast part of the U.S. state of New York, just east of Manhattan. Stretching northeast into the Atlantic Ocean, Long Island contains four counties, two of which are boroughs of New York City (Queens and Brooklyn), and two of which are mainly suburban (Nassau and Suffolk). The term "Long Island" often refers only to Nassau and Suffolk counties in order to differentiate them from New York City, though all four counties are on the island and part of the New York metropolitan area.

Long Island [] („Lange Insel“) ist eine Insel, die zum US-Bundesstaat New York gehört. Sie liegt an der Ostküste Nordamerikas, ist etwa 190 km lang und 20 bis 32 Kilometer breit. Die Fläche beträgt 3.566 km², was ungefähr der Fläche Mallorcas entspricht. Geologisch ist die Insel eine eiszeitliche Moräne, die weitgehend sandige, lockere und felsige (weniger Urgesteins-) Böden aufweist.

Long Island ma podłużny kształt - jej długość wynosi ok. 190 km, a szerokość nie przekracza 32 km. Dawniej wyspa ta nazywała się Paumonauk, co w języku Indian znaczy: "rybokształtna wyspa". Warto wspomnieć iż Long Island jest kolebką muzyki. Większość najlepszych muzyków przyszło na świat właśnie tam.
