London Group is an
art
society based in
London, England
founded in 1915 when the
Vorticists
came together to encourage and support young
avant-garde
artists
to
exhibit
their work. Members of the group have included:
Walter Sickert
,
William Roberts
, Percy
Wyndham Lewis
, Robert Bevan,
Henry Moore
,
Vanessa Bell
,
Paula Rego
and
Paul Nash
. In 1940 the Polish painter
Henryk Gotlib
was invited to join, making him the Group's first foreign member. The London Group continues to exist as of
2006
, when its members exhibitied at the
Bankside Gallery
.
