London Underground

The London Underground is an underground railway system - also known as a rapid transit system - that serves a large part of Greater London, United Kingdom and some neighbouring areas. It is the world's oldest underground system, and is one of the longest in terms of route length. Services began on 10th January 1863 on the Metropolitan Railway; most of the initial route is now part of the Hammersmith & City line. Despite its name, about 55% of the network is above ground. Popular local names include the Underground and, more colloquially, the Tube, in reference to the cylindrical shape of the system's deep-bore tunnels.

Le Métro de Londres ou London Underground est le réseau métropolitain qui dessert le Grand Londres et les espaces alentours de l'Essex, de l'Hertfordshire et du Buckinghamshire. Il s'agit du plus vieux métro du monde. On le nomme communément Underground ou Tube en référence à la forme cylindrique des tunnels de ses lignes profondes, bien qu'en réalité, 55% du réseau soit situé en surface.

Metro londyńskie (London Underground, potocznie the Tube) - system lokalnych linii kolejowych przebiegających w podziemnych tunelach oraz na powierzchni, obsługujących większość obszaru Wielkiego Londynu. Jest najstarszym metrem na świecie, pierwsi podróżni skorzystali z niego 10 stycznia 1863 roku. Pomimo nazwy, jedynie ok. 45% długości tras znajduje się pod ziemią.

La metropolitana di Londra (inglese: London Underground) è la piu vecchia rete metropolitana del mondo e la prima per estensione, con ben 414 km di linea autonoma gestita dalla Transport for London; la sotterranea newyorkese, la seconda al mondo per estensione, è dotata di 368 km di rete, anche se sono in corso dei lavori per portarla ad averne una di più di mille km, scalzando quindi il primato attuale detenuto dalla metropoli londinese. La rete sotterranea di Londra fu inaugurata il 10 gennaio 1863, e conta 274 stazioni dislocate in tutta l' area della Grande Londra. Nel 2004-05 è stata utilizzata dai passeggeri per 976 milioni di corse, ovvero 2,67 milioni al giorno.
