London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom, the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom, and the largest urban zone in the European Union by most measures. Located on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia, its history going back to its founding by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its square-mile mediaeval boundaries. Since at least the 19th century, the name London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms the London region and the Greater London administrative area, governed by the elected Mayor of London and the London Assembly.

The Domain Name System of the Internet consists of a set of top-level domains which constitute the root domain of the hierarchical name space and database. In the growth of the Internet, it became desirable to expand the set of initially six generic top-level domains in 1984. As a result new top-level domain names have been proposed for implementation by ICANN. Such proposals included a variety of models ranging from adoption of policies for unrestricted gTLDs that could be registered by anyone for any purpose, to chartered gTLDs for specialized uses by specialized organizations. In October 2000, ICANN published a list of proposals for top-level domain strings it had received.

The Queen's Club is a private sporting club in West Kensington, London, England. Founded in 1886, the Queen's Club was the world's first multipurpose sports complex and named after Queen Victoria, its first patron. The club hosts the prestigious annual Queen's Club Championships grass court men's lawn tennis tournament (currently known as the AEGON Championships for sponsorship reasons). It has 28 outdoor courts and eight indoor. With two courts, it is also the national headquarters of real tennis, hosting the British Open every year. The Queen's Club also has rackets, and squash courts, of which it now has become the headquarters for these sports due to the Prince's Club closure in 1940.

Der Queen’s Club ist ein Sportclub im Londoner Stadtteil West Kensington. Er veranstaltet die jährlich ausgetragenen Queen’s Club Championships, eines der weltweit bedeutendsten Turniere im Rasentennis. Der Queen’s Club ist auch der Sitz des nationalen Verbandes für „Real Tennis“ (engl. Bezeichnung für Jeu de Paume) und Austragungsort der britischen Meisterschaften dieser Sportart.

Staden grundades under namnet Londinium som huvudstad i den romerska provinsen Britannia, för vilken den också utgjorde hamnstad vid floden Themsen. Themsen rinner genom staden och delar den i nord-sydlig riktning även om den korsas av många broar och tunnlar, den mest kända är den nygotiska Tower Bridge.
