Lolland

Lolland (formerly spelled Laaland) is the fourth largest island of Denmark, with an area of some 1,243 square kilometers (480 sq. miles). Located in the Baltic Sea, it is part of Region Sjælland.The highest peak of the entire isle is 25 m (82 ft) high and was an important spot for the communication highway for the  Germans during World War II. The peak is just outside the village of Horslunde. Historically, sugar beets have been grown there.The largest town of Lolland is Nakskov, with 15,500 residents. Other towns worth noting are Maribo (6000 residents), Sakskøbing (3500 residents) (which was the capital of Denmark for two years in the 15th century) and Rødby (2500 residents).

Lolland to trzecia co do wielkości wyspa duńska, położona w Cieśninach Duńskich na południe od Zelandii. Na północy graniczy z Zatoką Vordingborską, od wyspy Langeland oddzielona jest cieśniną Bełt Langelandzki, od Falsteru - Guldborgsundem, a od Fehmarnu - Fehmarn Bełtem. Administracyjnie wyspa wchodzi w skład okręgu Storstrøms Amt.

Lolland ( in passato chiamata anche Laaland ) è la quarta più grande isola della Danimarca e si estende su di un'area di 1.243 km². Si trova nel Mar Baltico.L'isola è in pratica completamente pianeggiante e il suo rilievo più elevato - che si trova nei pressi del paese di Horslunde - è alto 25 metri su livello del mare: durante la seconda guerra mondiale ricoprì comunque un ruolo importante per il sistema di comunicazione militare tedesco.Tradizionalmente a Lolland è diffusa la coltivazione della barbabietola da zucchero.
