The Legend of the Condor Heroes
The Legend of Condor Heroes is one of the most acclaimed
wuxia novels by
Jinyong, first published in
1957 in
Hong Kong Commercial Daily. This is the first novel of the
Condor Trilogy. The title in Chinese literally translates as The Legend of the Eagle Shooting Heroes. (Condors are not native birds of China. The mistranslation occurs because the character 鵰 diāo refers to large-wingspan soaring birds in general such as condors, eagles, and vultures.) Jinyong revised all of his novels including this one in the 1970s and again in the 2000s.
