Liverpool is a city and metropolitan borough in Merseyside, England, along the eastern side of the Mersey EstuaryLiverpool is governed by one of five councils within the metropolitan county of Merseyside, and is one of England's core cities and its fifth most populous — 447,500 in 2006, with 816,000 in the Liverpool Urban Area, the conurbation around the city that includes other towns (such as St. Helens and Haydock) on the Liverpool side of the Mersey but not those on the Wirral Peninsula. The term Greater Merseyside is sometimes used to described a broader area, which also includes the borough of Halton.

Liverpool [] ist eine Stadt und Metropolitan Borough im Nordwesten von England, an der Mündung des Flusses Mersey. Im Jahr 2002 betrug die Bevölkerungszahl der Stadt 441.447, jene des Ballungsgebietes 1.362.026. Liverpool ist der zweitgrößte Exporthafen Großbritanniens. Der historische Teil der Hafenstadt einschließlich der Touristenattraktion Albert Dock wurde 2004 durch die UNESCO zum Welterbe erklärt. Die Stadt grenzt an Bootle und Huyton. Auf der anderen Seite des Flusses Mersey liegen Wallasey und Birkenhead.Bekannt ist die Stadt durch die traditionsreichen Fußballvereine FC Everton und FC Liverpool sowie durch ihre pulsierende Musikszene, aus der in den 1960er Jahren unter anderem die Beatles hervorgingen. 2008 ist Liverpool (neben Stavanger in Norwegen) Europäische Kulturhauptstadt. Die Einwohner Liverpools werden offiziell "Liverpudlians" genannt, doch der Übername "Scousers" ist besser bekannt. Sie sprechen einen besonderen Dialekt, der Scouse genannt wird.

Liczy ok. 500 tysięcy mieszkańców.Jest drugim po Londynie ośrodkiem portowym Wielkiej Brytanii i jednym z najważniejszych takich ośrodków w historii (dzięki handlowi niewolnikami, a także handlowi i komunikacji pasażerskiej z Ameryką).
