Little Miami River

The Little Miami River (also called the Little Miami Scenic River) is a tributary of the Ohio River, approximately 106 mi (170 km) long, in southwestern Ohio in the United States. It has been designated a National Wild and Scenic River.It joins the Ohio River east of Cincinnati, and is named for the Miami, an Algonquian-speaking Native American people who lived in the region during the early days of white settlement.Historically, the Little Miami formed the eastern boundary of the Symmes Purchase and the western boundary of the Virginia Military District.

Der Little Miami River (auch Little Miami Scenic River genannt) ist ein Nebenfluss des Ohio River, ungefähr 257 km lang. Er fließt im südwestlichen  Ohio (USA). Er trifft östlich von Cincinnati auf den Ohio River.Der Fluss ist nach dem Volk der Miami benannt, die in dieser Gegend bis zum Beginn der Landnahme durch weiße Siedler lebten.Der Little Miami River ist ein National Scenic River. Viele Parks und Radwege wurden entlang des Flusses angelegt, z.B. der Little Miami Bike Trail, der Buckeye Trail und der Little Miami Scenic State Park. Das derzeit im Bau befindliche Ohio to Erie Trail-Projekt soll die Wege mit anderen des Staates Ohio verbinden und so einen zusammenhängenden Radweg vom Eriesee zum Ohio River bilden.

The Little Miami was included in the state system in 1969 and national system in 1973. The river originates near Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve and National Natural Landmark. Flowing through a deep gorge, wooded bluffs, and rolling farmlands, this popular Ohio river is located between Cincinnati and Dayton, putting it within an hour drive of over 3 million people.
