[]) oder GNU/Linux (siehe GNU/Linux-Namensstreit) werden in der Regel freie, portable, Unix-ähnliche Mehrbenutzer-Betriebssysteme bezeichnet, die auf dem Linux-Kernel und wesentlich auf GNU-Software basieren. Die weite, auch kommerzielle Verbreitung ermöglichte ab 1992 die Lizenzierung des Linux-Kernels unter der GPL.

Linux jest uniksopodobnym systemem operacyjnym. Linux jest jednym ze znamiennych przykładów wolnego i otwartego oprogramowania (FLOSS); będący jego bazą kod źródłowy może być dowolnie wykorzystywany, modyfikowany i rozpowszechniany.

Pierwsza wersja jądra Linuksa została udostępniona publicznie 17 września 1991 dla architektury komputera PC, wykorzystującej mikroprocesor o mikroarchitekturze IA-32. Do jądra dołączono narzędzia systemowe i biblioteki z projektu GNU aby otrzymać nadający się do użytku system operacyjny. Z tego powodu powstała też alternatywna nazwa kompletnego systemu: GNU/Linux. Obecnie jest on udostępniany w formie licznych dystrybucji Linuksa, które składają się z jądra (niekiedy zmodyfikowanego w stosunku do oficjalnej wersji) i zestawu pakietów oprogramowania dobranego do różnorodnych wymagań.

Linux+ to europejskie czasopismo o tematyce informatycznej wydawane przez Software Wydawnictwo. Opisywane w nim zagadnienia związane są z systemami GNU/Linux oraz Wolnym i Otwartym Oprogramowaniem. Linux+ jest miesięcznikiem, a na każdy miesiąc regularnie przypada pewien temat przewodni magazynu, taki jak np. webmastering, Internet czy programowanie (omawiane oczywiście pod kątem systemu Linux).
