Linguaphone is the name of a company that helps people learn languages. The company now specialises in self-learning courses through books, cassettes, CDs and multimedia. The company was founded in 1901 by Jacques Roston a translator and language teacher who emigrated from Poland to the UK and combined Thomas Edison's invention of sound recording, and Alexander Graham Bell's development of wax cylinders to create a method of language learning that could be used at home without the need of attending regular classes.
