Lincoln Memorial

The Lincoln Memorial, in Washington, D.C., is a United States Presidential memorial built to honor 16th President Abraham Lincoln. The architect was Henry Bacon, the sculptor was Daniel Chester French, and the painter of the interior murals was Jules Guerin.The building is in the form of a Greek Doric temple and contains a large seated sculpture of Abraham Lincoln and inscriptions of two well-known speeches by Lincoln. The memorial has been the site of many famous speeches, including Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech, delivered on August 28, 1963, during the rally at the end of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

Das Lincoln Memorial ist ein Denkmal zu Ehren Abraham Lincolns, des 16. Präsidenten der USA.Es wurde von Henry Bacon entworfen und zwischen 1915 und 1922 erbaut. Es liegt an der National Mall in Washington D.C.Die 36 dorischen Säulen des von griechischem Stil geprägten Monuments symbolisieren die 36 Staaten, welche zur Amtszeit Lincolns die USA bildeten. Später wurden die Namen der weiteren 12 US-Staaten um das Dach des Denkmals herum eingemeißelt, wiederum später folgten zwei Tafeln im Boden für die neuen Staaten Hawaii und Alaska.

Pomnik Lincolna (ang. Lincoln Memorial) - znajdujący się w parku National Mall w Waszyngtonie pomnik upamiętniający szesnastego prezydenta Stanów Zjednoczonych Abrahama Lincolna.Posąg siedzącego Lincolna znajduje się w budynku zbudowanym na wzór doryckiej starożytnej greckiej świątyni - otacza go 36 kolumn o wysokości 10 metrów. Decyzję o budowie pomnika podjął Kongres w 1911, jego odsłonięcie nastąpiło 30 maja 1922. Budynek został zaprojektowany przez architekta Henry'ego Bacona, statua Lincolna jest autorstwa Daniela Chestera Frencha.

Il Lincoln Memorial è un monumento costruito in onore di Abraham Lincoln, sedicesimo presidente degli Stati Uniti, e sorge nel National Mall di Washington. L’edificio ha la forma di un tempio dorico e contiene un’enorme statua raffigurante Abraham Lincoln seduto, oltre alla riproduzione di due ben noti discorsi pronunciati dal presidente. Il progetto dell’edificio monumentale è dovuto all’architetto Henry Bacon, la statua di Lincoln fu realizzata dallo scultore Daniel Chester French, il pittore e decoratore Jules Guerin si occupò della decorazione pittorica delle mura. Il monumento a Lincoln è stata la sede di numerosi discorsi storici, incluso quello di Martin Luther King che cominciava con le parole “I have a dream” e che fu pronunciato il 28 agosto 1963, durante un raduno alla fine della Marcia su Washington per il lavoro e la libertà. Come altri monumenti del National Mall, inclusi gli adiacenti monumenti ai caduti nel Vietnam e in Corea, il Lincoln Memorial è amministrato dal National Park Service tramite la sezione National Mall and Memorial Parks ed è stato ricompreso nel National Register of Historic Places (Registro nazionale dei luoghi storici) fin dal 15 ottobre 1966.
