The Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (National Professional Football League), more commonly known as the Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) is a national sports association responsible for administering the two professional football leagues in Spain - the Primera and Segunda División. The organisation was founded in 1984.

The Primera División (First Division) of the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (LFP), commonly known in the English-speaking world as La Liga (, The League) or, for sponsorship reasons, Liga BBVA (BBVA League) since 2008, is the top professional association football division of the Spanish football league system. It is contested by 20 teams, with the three lowest placed teams relegated to the Segunda División and replaced by the top three teams in that division. A total of 59 teams have competed in La Liga, nine of which have been crowned champions. Since the 1950s, Real Madrid and Barcelona have dominated the championship. Real Madrid have won the title a record 32 times, whilst Barcelona have won it on 21 occasions. During the 1930s and 1940s and in the last two decades, however, La Liga has seen other champions, including Atlético Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Valencia, Real Sociedad, Deportivo, Real Betis, and Sevilla. Real Madrid is the current defending champion.

Die Primera División (spanisch für Erste Liga) ist die höchste spanische Fußballliga. Sie existiert seit der Saison 1928/1929 und wird von der Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) betrieben. Seit dem Jahre 2008 trägt die Liga offiziell den Sponsornamen „Liga BBVA“. Umgangssprachlich wird die Primera División auch "La Liga" genannt.

Le championnat d'Espagne de l'élite est le Primera División. On utilise souvent le terme impropre de « Liga » pour nommer cette compétition, mais Liga signifie seulement championnat en espagnol. L'antichambre de cette élite a pour nom Segunda División.

Primera División (Första divisionen) av Liga de Fútbol Profesional (Professionella fotbollsligan), mer känd som La Liga (Ligan) eller Liga BBVA (BBVA League) sedan 2008 är den professionella fotbollsligan i Spanien. Primera División - hiszpańska liga w piłce nożnej o charakterze profesjonalnym, jest najwyższą klasą rozgrywkową w kraju i jej rozgrywki wyłaniają mistrza Hiszpanii. Wraz z drugą ligą Segunda Division tworzy organizację Liga de Fútbol Profesional (Liga Profesjonalnej Piłki Nożnej), organizującą rozgrywki I i II ligi (podobnie jak w Polsce spółka Ekstraklasa SA). W sezonie 2005/2006 w Primera División występuje 20 zespołów. Po zakończeniu sezonu 3 drużyny z najmniejszą liczbą punktów zostają zdegradowane do Segunda Division. Jako liga o najwyższym współczynniku UEFA (podobnie jak Premiership i Serie A) może ona wystawić do rozgrywek Ligi Mistrzów 2 najlepsze zespoły oraz 2 kolejne do eliminacji, dwa następne, jak również zdobywca Pucharu Króla kwalifikują się do rozgrywek Pucharu UEFA. Inną nazwą hiszpańskiej ligi jest La Liga.
