Libya (mythology)

In Greek mythology, Libya, like Ethiopia or Scythia was one of the mythic outlands that encircled the familiar Greek world of the Hellenes and their "foreign" neighbors.Personified as an individual, Libya was the daughter of Epaphus — a son of Zeus and King of Egypt — and Memphis. Libya was ravished by the god Poseidon to whom she bore twin sons, Belus and Agenor. Some sources name a third son, named Lelex. Such genealogies, when applied to a personification of a land, were suggestive to Greek audiences, but need some explication for ordinary modern readers.

Dans la mythologie grecque, Libye, fille d'Épaphos et de Memphis, fut aimée par Poséidon, de qui elle eut Agénor (roi de Phénicie), Bélos (roi d'Égypte) et Lélex (roi de Sparte). Elle laissa son nom à la Libye (le terme désignait l'Afrique chez les Grecs anciens).

Libya (Libye, Lybie) (Λιβύη) ist eine Gestalt der griechischen Mythologie. Sie ist eine Tochter des Epaphos und der Memphis und damit eine Enkelin der Io. Sie war die Frau von Belos und die Mutter der Lamia.Libya ist auch der altgriechische Name für Afrika und damit namensgebend für das heutige Libyen.

Libyen ([], , amtlich Große Sozialistische Libysch-Arabische Volks-Dschamahirija, in der amtlichen Kurzform Libysch-Arabische Republik), ist ein Staat im Norden Afrikas. Er liegt am Mittelmeer und grenzt im Osten an Ägypten und Sudan, im Süden an Niger und Tschad und im Westen an die Maghreb-Staaten Tunesien und Algerien. Das Land ist fünfmal so groß wie Deutschland.
