Li hing mui is
salty dried
plum. It can be found in
Hawaiian and
Asian markets. It has a strong, distinctive taste, and is often said to be an
acquired taste. Li Hing Mui originated from mainland China as a dried plum version of a preserved "ume". The name "Li Hing Mui" was originated by Yick Lung Company which introduced the plum to Hawaii in the early 1900s.
