In 653, during the reign of Emperor Taizong's son Emperor Gaozong, Li Daozong offended Emperor Gaozong's uncle, the powerful chancellor Zhangsun Wuji, and Zhangsun exiled him to Xiang Prefecture (象州, roughly modern LaibinGuangxi), on accusation that he associated with the treasonous Fang Yi'ai (房遺愛).
