Lenticular galaxy

A lenticular galaxy is a type of galaxy which is intermediate between an elliptical galaxy and a spiral galaxy in galaxy morphological classification schemes. Lenticular galaxies are disc galaxies (like spiral galaxies) which have used up or lost their interstellar matter (like elliptical galaxies). Because of their ill-defined spiral arms, if they are inclined face-on it is often difficult to distinguish between them and elliptical galaxies.

M84 is situated in the heavily populated inner core of the Virgo Cluster of galaxies.Radio observations and images of the Hubble Space Telescope of M84 have revealed two jets of matter shooting out from the galaxy's center as well as a disk of rapidly rotating gas and stars close to the nucleus indicating the presence of a supermassive black hole of 18  M_☉ in the galaxy's nucleus.

An intermediate form of galaxy, between elliptical galaxies and spiral galaxies. They possess flattened forms and galactic discs but have no spiral arms.
