Lapiths

In Greek mythology, the Lapiths were a legendary people, whose home was in Thessaly on the mountain Pelion. Like the Myrmidons and other Thessalian tribes, the Lapiths were pre-Hellenic in their origins. The genealogies make them a kindred people with the Centaurs: in one version, Lapithes and Centaurus were said to be twin sons of the god Apollo and the nymph Stilbe, daughter of the river god Peneus. Lapithes was a valiant warrior, but Centaurus was a deformed being who later mated with mares, from whom the half-man, half-horse Centaurs sprang. Lapithes was the eponymous ancestor of the Lapith people, and his descendants include Lapith warriors and kings, such as Ixion, Pirithous, Caeneus, and Coronus, and the seers Idmon and Mopsus.

Dans la mythologie grecque, les Lapithes ou Laphites (en grec ancien  / Lapíthai) sont une tribu grecque habitant le nord de la Thessalie. Pirithoos, fils d'Ixion, demi-frère des centaures, était leur roi. Il refusa de donner leur part d'héritage aux centaures et une guerre s'ensuivit.

Die Lapithen sind ein sagenhaftes Volk, das der griechischen Mythologie zufolge im antiken Griechenland gelebt haben soll. Sie stammten von Lapithes, einem Sohn des Apollon und der Stilpe, ab. Ihr Wohnsitz soll im nördlichen Thessalien gelegen haben. Dies liegt im heutigen Mittelgriechenland und hat als Hauptstadt Larisa. Der Überlieferung nach waren die Lapithen von riesenhafter Gestalt und edler Gesinnung, weswegen Adelsfamilien Griechenlands noch heute gerne ihren Ursprung auf sie zurückführen.

Nella mitologia greca i Lapiti erano un popolo leggendario che abitava la vallata del Peneo in Tessaglia. L’origine dei Lapiti, al pari dei Mirmidoni e delle altre tribù tessale, risalgono ad un’epoca pre-ellenica. Le antiche genealogie sostenevano che la loro stirpe fosse imparentata con quella dei Centauri: in particolare, secondo una leggenda, Lapite e Centauro sarebbero stati fratelli gemelli figli di Apollo e della Ninfa Stilbe, figlia del dio fluviale Peneo. Lapite era un abile guerriero, mentre Centauro era un essere deforme che visse insieme a dei cavalli e si accoppiò con delle giumente, generando i Centauri, creature metà uomini e metà cavalli. Lapite divenne invece il progenitore della stirpe che da lui prende il nome,e tra i suoi discendenti si trovano re e guerrieri come Issione, Piritoo, Ceneo e  Corono, nonché i veggenti Idmone e Mopso. La madre di Piritoo era Dia figlia di Deioneo (o Ioneo) mentre, come era comune per molti eroi, egli aveva sia un padre divino che un padre mortale. Il suo padre immortale era Zeus che però, per mettere incinta Dia, aveva dovuto assumere la forma di un cavallo, ragion per cui i Lapiti divennero anche abili cavalieri. A loro era attribuita l’invenzione del morso delle briglie. Secondo l’Iliade i Lapiti parteciparono alla guerra di Troia con quaranta navi sotto il comando di Polipete - figlio di Piritoo - e di Leonteo - figlio di Corono.

Лапи́фы — полумифическое-полуисторическое племя, многочисленные представители которого встречаются в разных мифах, а также в «Илиаде». Они жили в северной части Фессалии, а также на Пелионе, откуда были прогнаны кентавры, Оссе, Пинде (в ущелье которого наяда Креуса произвела на свет, с богом реки Пенеем, Гипсея, царя лапифов), в долине Пенея, окрестностях Олимпа и т. д. Вне Фессалии с именем лапифов связаны города и области: Олен, Элида (куда переселился Форбант (сын Лапифа)), Книд, Тодос, Феней, Малея. Связь этого племени с географическими именами, а также широкое его распространение, указывают на то, что лапифы были не просто великанами, произведенными народной фантазией, но отчасти историческим племенем, игравшим значительную роль в росте ранней эллинской культуры. В историческое время Кипселиды в Коринфе и Пирифоиды в Аттике вели свое происхождение от эпонимов-родоначальников из лапифского племени.
