Lake Erie

Lake Erie (pronounced ) is the tenth largest lake on Earth and, of the five Great Lakes of North America, is the fourth largest by surface area, the southernmost, shallowest, and smallest by volume. It is bounded on the north by the Canadian province of  Ontario, on the south by the U.S. states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York, and on the west by the state of Michigan. The lake is named after the Erie tribe of Native Americans who lived along its southern shore before being exterminated for aiding the Hurons, the enemy of the Iroquois League.

Der Eriesee (engl. Lake Erie) ist der südlichste der fünf Großen Seen Nordamerikas. Der Name leitet sich von den Erie-Indianern ab. Durch ihn verläuft die Grenze der USA zu Kanada. Er liegt auf , seine Fläche beträgt 25.700 km² und geht auf 64 m Wassertiefe. Der Zufluss erfolgt über den Huronsee. Über die Niagarafälle entwässert er in den Ontariosee. Der Eriekanal verbindet den See mit dem 580 km südlich gelegenen Hudson River.

Erie (ang. Lake Erie), jezioro słodkowodne, czwarte co do wielkości w kompleksie pięciu Wielkich Jezior Ameryki Północnej. Środkiem jeziora biegnie granica między Kanadą i USA. Rzeka Niagara wypływa z jeziora na jego wschodnim końcu i łączy je z jeziorem Ontario. Na zachodnim końcu wpływa do jeziora rzeka Detroit, która łączy je z jeziorem Huron. Jezioro jest dostępne dla pełnomorskich statków przez Drogę Wodną Świętego Wawrzyńca.

Il Lago Erie è uno dei cinque Grandi Laghi dell'America settentrionale, che comprendono alcuni dei più grandi laghi d'acqua dolce del mondo. Lo stesso lago Erie è il tredicesimo lago al mondo per superficie, anche contando laghi d'acqua salata come il Mar Caspio ed il Lago d'Aral. Esso copre circa 24,000 kmq, con una profondità media di 19 metri, per cui contiene "solo" 483 km cubi d'acqua (il più vasto dei Grandi Laghi, il Lago Superiore, ha un volume di oltre 12.000 km cubi).
