Francophonie is an international organization of politics and governments with French as the mother or customary language, where a significant proportion of people are francophones (French speakers), or where there is a notable affiliation with the French language or culture.

Darin eingeschlossen sind Verhältnisse ganz unterschiedlicher Natur: Staaten, in denen Französisch offizielle Sprache ist, Staaten, in denen Französisch Muttersprache ist, und solche Staaten, in denen Französisch Lehrsprache ist. Bereits 1871 wurde der Begriff Frankophonie von Geographen verwendet, „erfunden“ wurde das Wort von Onésime Reclus (1837–1916).

La francophonie désigne un ensemble d'États et gouvernements ayant le français en partage.

Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, ("Frankofonins internationella organisation") med förkortningen OIF, är en internationell organisation för fransktalande länder och områden. Organisationen har 55 medlemsländer och medlemsregioner samt 13 med observatörsstatus.

Frankofonia (fr. La Francophonie, z łac. Francus = 'Francuz' + gr. phone = 'głos, dźwięk') - termin utworzony w 1880 roku przez francuskiego geografa Onésime Reclus (brata Élisée Reclus), oznaczający wspólnotę ludzi i państw posługujących się językiem francuskim. Obecnie jest to międzynarodowa organizacja skupiająca rządy krajów francuskojęzycznych. Tylko w kilku z tych krajów francuski spełnia rolę pierwszoplanową, w pozostałych odgrywa już pomniejszą rolę.
