LIMS

A "Laboratory Information Management System" (LIMS) is computer software that is used in the laboratory for the management of samples, laboratory users, instruments, standards and other laboratory functions such as invoicing, plate management, and work flow automation. A LIMS and a Laboratory Information System (LIS) perform similar functions. The primary difference is that LIMS are generally targeted toward environmental, research or commercial analysis, such as pharmaceutical or petrochemical, and LIS are targeted toward the clinical market (hospitals and other clinical labs).

LIMS steht für Labor - Informations - Management - System. Diese Kategorie von Softwaresystemen befasst sich mit der Datenverarbeitung im chemischen, physikalischen, biologischen, medizinischen Labor. Prinzipiell kann man jedes Labor hier einordnen, aber in nicht allen genannten Branchen spricht man zwingend von LIMS.

Un Laboratory Information System (LIS) è un sistema informatico utilizzato in ambito sanitario per gestire le richieste dei pazienti nonché processare e memorizzare le informazioni generate dai macchinari dei laboratori di analisi. Nelle versioni più evolute questi sistemi cosentono di avere un controllo diretto sulle apparecchiature elettromedicali, così da poter accedere direttamente al loro controllo attraverso una rete informatica. Tali funzionalità danno la possibilità di avere un controllo diretto nella gestione del materiale di consumo utilizzato nelle fasi di testing, consentendo in tempo reale agli operatori di gestire le scorte di magazzino in modo molto efficiente.
