LIDAR

LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is an optical remote sensing technology that measures properties of scattered light to find range and/or other information of a distant target. The prevalent method to determine distance to an object or surface is to use laser pulses. Like the similar radar technology, which uses radio waves instead of light, the range to an object is determined by measuring the time delay between transmission of a pulse and detection of the reflected signal. LIDAR technology has application in archaeology, geography, geology, geomorphology, seismology, remote sensing and atmospheric physics.Other terms for LIDAR include ALSM (Airborne Laser Swath Mapping) and laser altimetry. The acronym LADAR (Laser Detection and Ranging) is often used in military contexts. The term laser radar is also in use but is misleading because it uses laser light and not the radiowaves that are the basis of conventional radar.

Lidar steht für "light detection and ranging" und ist eine dem Radar ("radiowave detection and ranging") sehr verwandte Methode zur Entfernungs- und Geschwindigkeitsmessung sowie zur Fernmessung atmosphärischer Parameter. Statt Funkwellen wie beim RADAR werden jedoch Laserstrahlen verwendet.

Lidar – urządzenie działające na podobnej zasadzie jak radar. Nazwa pochodzi od angielskiego akronimu LIDAR, utworzonego od wyrażenia: Light Detection and Ranging.Lidar jest połączeniem lasera z teleskopem. Laser wysyła poprzez specjalny układ optyczny bardzo krótkie i dokładnie odmierzone, ale silne impulsy światła o konkretnej długości fali i w określonym kierunku. Światło to ulega po drodze rozproszeniu, które jest obserwowane za pomocą teleskopu, znajdującego się w tym samym urządzeniu, a następnie rejestrowane za pomocą czułego detektora – fotodiody lub fotopowielacza, który bada natężenie zaobserwowanego rozproszonego światła. Otrzymane dane są następnie analizowane komputerowo.

LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging; o Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) è una tecnica di telerilevamento che permette di determinare la distanza di un oggetto o di una superficie utilizzando un impulso laser, oltre a determinare la concentrazione di specie chimiche nell'atmosfera. Come per il radar, che al posto della luce utilizza onde radio, la distanza dell'oggetto è determinata misurando il tempo trascorso fra l'emissione dell'impulso e la ricezione del segnale retrodiffuso. La sorgente di un sistema LIDAR è un laser, ovvero un fascio coerente di luce ad una ben precisa lunghezza d'onda, che viene inviato verso il sistema da osservare. La tecnologia Lidar ha applicazioni in geologia, sismologia, rilevamento remoto e fisica dell'atmosfera.
