LG Group is a large South Korean chaebol (conglomerate), which produces electronics, mobile phones, and petrochemical products and operates subsidiaries like LG Electronics. LG Group sponsors the LG Cup Go Tournament.Created in 1947, it assumed the abbreviated name of "LG" in 1995. LG is an abbreviation of "Lucky Geumseong" (럭키금성) in South Korea, which is translated into English as Lucky Venus (Goldstar). Before then, many consumer electronics were sold under the brand name Goldstar, while some other household products (not available outside South Korea) were sold under the brand name of Lucky. The Lucky brand was famous for household cleaning products and laundry detergents in South Korea. Before massive industrialization of South Korean society, the name Lucky was synonymous with toothpaste. More recently, the company has attempted to update its moniker by suggesting that "LG" stands for "Life is Good" (as evidenced by the current company tagline), though cynics view this as baptismal back-pedaling.

Lucky-Goldstar (LG) est un chaebol (conglomérat industriel sud-coréen), spécialisé dans l'électronique (dont la domotique), les téléphones portables et les produits pétrochimiques. L'entreprise s'est appelée Lucky-Goldstar (러키 금성) de sa création en 1947 jusqu'en 1995, date à laquelle elle a adopté l'abréviation LG comme dénomination courante. Avant ce changement de nom, LG vendait également certains produits électroniques sous la marque Goldstar, et des produits ménagers sous la marque Lucky, mais seulement en Corée du Sud pour cette dernière. Lucky était une marque connue pour ses détergents et produits nettoyants. Le terme Lucky était d'ailleurs synonyme de dentifrice avant l'industrialisation massive de la société sud-coréenne (de la même façon que Kleenex désigne souvent les mouchoirs en papier en général).

LG Group jeden z największych koreańskich czeboli (do 1995 roku działał pod nazwą Lucky GoldStar Group, która odzwierciedla wcześniejsze połączenie dwóch koncernów: Lucky Chemical Company oraz GoldStar). W 120 krajach LG Group zatrudnia ok. 140 tys. pracowników. W 1996 roku obroty całego koncernu przekroczyły 73 mld dolarów. Zajmuje się on głównie przemysłem energetycznym i chemicznym, elektroniką i telekomunikacją. Ostatnie dwie dziedziny - kojarzone z marką GoldStar, którą w połowie lat 90. przemianowano na LG Electronics - stały się wiodącą dziedziną działalności koncernu. Założona wspólnie z holenderskim koncernem Royal Philips Electronics spółka LG Philips Displays jest np. jednym z największych na świecie producentów kineskopów używanych w telewizorach i monitorach komputerowych.
