LANTIRN

Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night, or LANTIRN, is a system for use on the USAF's premier fighter aircraft -- the F-15E Strike Eagle and F-16 Fighting Falcon (Block 40/42 C & D models). LANTIRN pods have also been used on some Turkish Air Force aircraft such as the TUSAS F-16 Night Falcon, since 1994. Turkey was the first foreign country to acquire LANTIRN pods. LANTIRN significantly increases the combat effectiveness of these aircraft, allowing them to fly at low altitudes, at night and under-the-weather to attack ground targets with a variety of precision-guided and unguided weapons.
