"Kurma" is also an alternative transliteration of korma.In Hinduism, Kurma (Sanskrit: कुर्म) was the second avatar of Vishnu. Like the Matsya Avatara also belongs to the Satya yuga. Vishnu took the form of a half-man half-tortoise, the lower half being a tortoise. He is normally shown as having four arms. He sat on the bottom of the ocean after the Great Flood. A mountain was placed on his back by the other gods so that they could churn the sea and find the ancient treasures of the Vedic peoples.

Kurma (wörtlich Schildkröte) gilt im Hinduismus als Avatara Vishnus und seine zweite Inkarnation .Nach verschiedenen Puranas, den alten Büchern über die Götter, verkörperte sich Vishnu nach seiner Erscheinungsform als Fisch (Matsya) in der Gestalt einer Schildkröte. Auf ihrem Rücken hob Kurma den Berg Mandara aus dem Wasser des mythischen Urozeans und rettete ihn so vor dem Untergang. Laut Mythologie hatten Götter (Devas) und Dämonen (Asuras) in jener Zeit ihre Unsterblichkeit verloren. Auf Vishnus Rat hin banden sie die Schlange Vasuki um den Berg und begannen - Götter auf der einen, Dämonen auf der anderen Seite - an der Schlange zu ziehen. Auf diese Weise quirlten sie den Urozean, um Amrita, den Trank der Unsterblichkeit, zu gewinnen.

Kurma (żółw). Mit mówi, że potop zabrał wiele dóbr, pośród których znalazła się amrita, boski nektar, pozwalająca zastępom niebian zachować wieczną młodość. Wówczas Wisznu przeobraził się w olbrzymiego żółwia, po czym zanurzył się w falach bezkresnego oceanu. Na grzbiecie podźwigał górę Mandara, której zbocza oplótł boski wąż Wasuki. Asurowie pochwycili węża za głowę, niebianie za ogon i tak poczynioną mątewką poczęli ubijać ocean, tak jak mleczarze ubijają masło, aby otrzymać nektar. Poza amritą z wód wyłoniły się inne skarby i małżonka Wisznu - Lakszmi. Żółw - podpora świata - symbolizuje skoncentrowaną potencję.

Kurma (tartaruga in sanscrito) è il secondo avatar della divinità induista Viṣṇu. Secondo la mitologia induista, Viṣṇu assunse le sembianze di una tartaruga e si pose sul fondo dell'oceano in seguito al diluvio universale. Sulla sua schiena fu posto il monte Mandara da parte delle altre divinità, in modo che potessero rimescolare il mare per individuare i tesori antichi delle popolazioni vediche.
