Kubaba

Kubaba (in the Weidner "Chronicle"), also known as Kug-Baba or Kubau, is the only queen on the Sumerian king list. Before overthrowing the rule of En-Shakansha-Ana of the 2nd Uruk Dynasty and becoming monarch, the king list says she was a tavern-keeper. "The house of Kubaba" is mentioned "in the reign of Puzur-Nirah, king of Akshak" (line 38) in the Weidner "Chronicle", a propagandistic letter attempting to predate the shrine of Marduk to an early period: "Kubaba gave bread to the fisherman and gave water, she made him offer the fish to Esagila" (line 43). Her reign as the only "king" of the 3rd Dynasty of Kish was one of peace and prosperity. Her reign is contemporary with the "Early Dynastic III" period of Sumer. Her reign is listed to have lasted for 100 years. If she is a historical ruler, she probably lived in the 23rd to 25th century BC.

Koubaba est la déesse reine de la ville antique de Karkemish, parèdre du dieu de l'orage. C'est une divinité de la fertilité. Elle joue un rôle dans les textes louvites et un rôle mineur dans les textes hittites, principalement dans les rites religieux hourrites. Plus tard, son culte se répandit et elle devint la déesse principale des royaumes anatoliens postérieurs aux Hittites, puis d'Hattousa. Elle est probablement à l'origine de la divinité phrygienne Cybèle.

Kubaba of Kubebe, ook Kupapa was eerst een archaïsche godin uit Karkemish in Klein-Azië. Ze speelde daar aanvankelijk als lokale godin slechts een geringe rol in de mythologie van de streek. Bij de opkomst van de neo-Hittitische koninkrijken werd zij echter de Oppergodin en nam zij de allures van een Moedergodin aan tot wie eenieder zich kon richten. Haar attributen waren een spiegel (doorgaans van obsidiaan in die tijden) en een sycomorevrucht.

Ку-Баба (букв. «Светла Баба») — царица, правившая в древнем шумерском городе Кише в начале XXIV до н. э. Единственная представительница III династии Киша. Согласно традиции, Ку-Баба считается родоначальницей 3-й и 4-й династии Киша. Древнейшая летопись шумеров, «Царский список» сообщает, что первоначально Ку-Баба была содержательницей кабака. Она смогла оказаться у власти в драматический момент, когда предшествующая 2-я Династия Киша пала в борьбе с Уруком. Неизвестно, каким образом женщина, да и столь низкого происхождения, смогла достичь царского величия и власти в Шумере, но «Царский список» свидетельствует что она «укрепила основы Киша».
