Kos

Kos or Cos (Greek: Κως; Turkish: İstanköy; Italian: Coo; formerly Stanchio in English) is a Greek island in the Dodecanese, next to the Gulf of Cos. It measures 40 km by 8 km, and is only 4 km from the coast of Bodrum, Turkey. The island has both fertile plains and infertile highlands with a population of 30,947. It is comprised of three municipalities: Kos, the administrative center and largest town (pop. 17,890), Dikaio, and Irakleides.

Kos ( , in heutiger Aussprache mit kurzem o, altgriechisch mit langem), ist eine zu den Dodekanes gehörende griechische Insel an der Küste von Karien (ital. Stancho, türk. Istanköy). Die 40 Kilometer lange und 8 Kilometer breite Insel hat eine Gesamtfläche von etwa 290 km² und ist nur 4 Kilometer von der Küste von  Bodrum (Türkei) entfernt. Kos hat fruchtbare Ebenen und karge Anhöhen, die Südhälfte ist durch mittelhohe Gebirge geprägt, deren höchste Erhebung mit etwa 875 m der Dikeos ist. Geologisch besteht die Insel aus  Schiefer, Kreidekalk und Tertiärschichten, mit mehreren meterdicken Lagen quartärem vulkanischen Tuffs obenauf. Die Angaben zur Einwohnerzahl schwanken zwischen 20.000 und 30.000. Kos besitzt einen Flughafen Kos (IATA-Code: KGS), der saisonabhängig auch von Deutschland aus angeflogen wird.

Koës ist eine Ortschaft im Wahlkreis Keetmanshoop (Land) rund 120 Kilometer nordöstlich von Keetmanshoop, in der Region Karas, Südnamibia. Das Gebiet um Koës liegt auf einer Hochebene der Kalahari auf circa 1.200 Meter über NN. Orte in der näheren Umgebung sind: Aroab, Jakkalsvlei, Khoexas und Garinais.

Rozmiary: 40 km x 8 kmPowierzchnia: ok. 290 km²Długość linii brzegowej: 112 kmLudność: 26 000Najwyższy szczyt: Dikeos - 843 m n.p.m. 97% mieszkańców wyznaje prawosławie, katolicy (0,4%) Kos słynie z długich piaszczystych plaż (szczególnie na północy wyspy - okolice Tingaki) oraz odizolowanych wiosek. Głównym źródłem dochodu jest turystyka. Ludność wyspy zajmuje się także uprawą winorośli, migdałów, fig, oliwek, warzyw (pomidorów i sałaty) oraz pszenicy i kukurydzy.
