Koi
"Koi" can also mean a virtual pet species in
Neopets. , or more specifically (, literally "
brocaded carp"), are ornamental domesticated varieties of the
common carp Cyprinus carpio. They are believed to have originated from Eastern Asia, Aral, Black and Caspian Seas. Earliest records of Koi have been found in
China and have been widely spread in
Japan. The ornamental cultivation of carp flourished under the
Chinese Qing Dynasty and
Japanese Edo Period. They are very closely related to
goldfish and, in fact, the style of breeding and ornamentation has become very similar, probably through the efforts of Japanese breeders to emulate goldfish. Koi and
tattoos of koi are traditionally considered lucky.

La Carpe koï (鯉, koi) est un
poisson ornemental originaire du
Japon. Vivant dans les rizières, ce poisson est le fruit de la consanguinité entre individus de l'espèce appelée
Carpe commune,
Cyprinus carpio. Elle est définie comme étant de la sous-espèce Cyprinus carpio carpio. La carpe koï arbore diverses couleurs : rouge, blanc, jaune, noir... Certaines
variétés colorées très prisées par les collectionneurs peuvent atteindre des prix record alors que leur âge est faible de l'ordre de deux ans.

Karpfens (Cyprinus carpio). Koi oder in Zusammensetzungen auch -goi ist einfach das japanische Wort für Karpfen allgemein.Es gibt Zuchtformen des Koi, die dem in
Europa gezüchteten
Spiegelkarpfen oder
Zeilkarpfen in der Beschuppung gleichen. Diese werden Doitsu (jap. doitsu = „Deutschland, deutsch“) oder genauer Doitsugoi (deutscher Karpfen) genannt.
