Kingdom of Saxony

The Kingdom of Saxony , lasting between 1806 and 1918, was an independent member of a number of historical confederacies in Napoleonic through post-Napoleonic Germany. From 1871 it was part of the German Empire, before finally being absorbed into the Weimar Republic of Germany in 1918 after the end of World War I. Its capital was the city of Dresden, and its modern successor state is the Free State of Saxony.

Das Königreich Sachsen entstand aus dem Kurfürstentum Sachsen und existierte von 1806 bis 1918. Es gehörte von 1806 bis 1815 dem Rheinbund und von 1815 bis 1866 dem Deutschen Bund an. Seit 1867 war es Mitglied des Norddeutschen Bundes und von 1871 bis 1918 des Deutschen Reiches. Die Hauptstadt war Dresden.

Het koninkrijk Saksen ontstond in 1806 toen keurvorst Frederik August III van Saksen door zijn deelname aan de Rijnbond als Frederik August I tot koning werd verheven. Het koninkrijk was van 1815 tot 1866 lid van de Duitse Bond. Koning Johan trad in 1867 toe tot de Noord-Duitse Bond en in 1871 tot het Duitse Keizerrijk. De laatste koning Frederik August III deed in de Novemberrevolutie evenals alle andere Duitse vorsten troonsafstand. Saksen werd een vrijstaat in de Weimarrepubliek.
