In violence, martial arts, and combat sports, a kick is an attack using the foot, leg, or knee (also known as a knee strike). This attack is often used in hand-to-hand combat, especially in stand-up fighting. Kicks inherently have greater power and reach than strikes made with the hands.Kicks play a great part in many martial arts, such as Taekwondo, kung fu, karate, kickboxing, Muay Thai, capoeira, Silat, and Savate. Some arts do not utilize kicks at all, such as judo and boxing. Other arts limit the use of kicks to attacks on the legs and lower body, while some sport martial arts tournaments only allow kicking above the waist.

Un coup de pied, en anglais kick, est une frappe avec la surface du pied (ou du tibia suivant les règlements sportifs), réalisée avec une action du membre inférieur. Dans certains arts martiaux et en sport de combat l’utilisation des techniques de jambe est majeure. C'est le cas pour certains styles appartenant aux pratiques suivantes : bando kickboxing (boxe birmane), karaté, kickboxing, savate, tangsudo, taekwondo, wushu.

Kopnięcie - uderzenie stopą, kolanem lub nogą stosowane w różnych formach konfrontacji fizycznej, w sztukach i w sportach walki. Używa się go w walce wręcz jako atak. W ogólności kopnięcia są wolniejsze niż ciosy pięścią, chociaż silniejsze od nich.Kopnięcia stanowią podstawowy element wielu sztuk walki, takich jak odmiany wushu, karate, kick-boxing, tangsudo i taekwondo, podczas gdy inne sztuki nie używają żadnych kopnięć, jak to się dzieje w przypadku sportowego judo i boksu. W niektórych sztukach walki kopnięcia się do ataków na nogi lub niższe części ciała przeciwnika.

Nel combattimento corpo a corpo, nelle arti marziali e negli sport, un calcio è un colpo dato con una parte degli arti inferiori (piede, tibia, ginocchio o genericamente la gamba): in particolare, nelle arti marziali si parla di "calcio" quando si colpisce con il piede o la tibia, mentre i colpi di ginocchio sono denominati diversamente (normalmente "ginocchiate"). Il calcio è usato nel combattimento soprattutto per attaccare, ma puo' essere usato anche come arma difensiva nei confronti di altri calci (come lo "stop kick" nel Jeet Kune Do). Generalmente, i calci sono più lenti dei pugni sebbene più forti dei colpi con le mani.
