The Valais (; , ) is one of the 26 cantons of Switzerland in the southwestern part of the country, around the valley of the Rhône from its headwaters to Lake Geneva, separating the Pennine Alps from the Bernese Alps. The canton is one of the drier parts of Switzerland in its central Rhône valley. Paradoxically, it is also one of most well-watered parts, having large amounts of snow and rain up on the highest peaks found in Switzerland. The canton of Valais is probably best known for the Matterhorn and ski resorts such as Zermatt and Verbier.

C'est un canton souverain au sein de la Confédération suisse depuis 1815, il est de tradition catholique et a comme chef-lieu la ville de Sion, plus grande ville du canton avec 28 013 habitants suivie par Sierre et Monthey avec un peu plus de 15000 habitants, selon le Valais en chiffres 2006. Situé au cœur des Alpes, le canton est avant tout un lieu touristique, riche en culture puisqu'il partage deux langues officielles sur le même territoire : le français et le suisse allemand.
