The Kalahari Desert (Dorsland in Afrikaans) is a large semi-arid sandy savannah in Southern Africa extending , covering much of Botswana and parts of Namibia and South Africa. As semi-desert, with huge tracts of excellent grazing after good rains, the Kalahari supports more animals and plants than a true desert, such as the Namib Desert to the west. There are small amounts of rainfall and the summer temperature is very high. It usually receives of rain per year. The surrounding Kalahari Basin covers over extending farther into Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, and encroaching into parts of Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The only permanent river, the Okavango, flows into a delta in the northwest, forming marshes that are rich in wildlife. Ancient dry riverbeds—called omuramba—traverse the Central Northern reaches of the Kalahari and provide standing pools of water during the rainy season. Previously havens for wild animals from elephant to giraffe, and for predators such as lion and cheetah, the riverbeds are now mostly grazing spots, though leopard or cheetah can still be found.

Die Kalahari (auch Kgalagadi genannt) ist eine Sandwüste aus überwiegend feinpulverigem, rotem Sand. Sie erstreckt sich von der Nördlichen Kapprovinz in Südafrika durch Namibia und Botsuana hindurch bis nach Angola und Sambia hinein über eine Fläche von mehr als 1,2 Mio. km².

Le désert aride et semi-aride sablonneux du Kalahari est situé entre les bassins des fleuves Zambèze et Orange, il couvre une large partie du Botswana et s'étend vers la Namibie et l'Afrique du Sud sur une superficie d'environ km². Une partie de ce désert, broussailleuse, devient un excellent pâturage après de bonnes pluies. Le bassin du Kalahari s'étend quant à lui sur 2,5 millions km, recouvrant des parties du Botswana, de la Namibie, de l'Afrique du Sud, ainsi que de l'Angola, de la Zambie et du Zimbabwe.

Kalahari är ett stort öken- och stäppområde i södra Afrika, som sträcker sig genom Angola, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana och Sydafrika. Kalahari, som är beläget i huvudsak mellan floderna Zambesi och Oranjefloden på mellan 900 och 1500 m höjd över havet, har en yta av ca 1 miljon km². I området finns flera stora saltträsk. Kalahariöknen är till största del sand och stäpp.
