Kopri, primarily a residential Colony, is situated on the eastern side of
Thane Railway station,
Maharashtra,
India. The residences of IAS and senior officers as well as the High court and civil court Judges of Thane city and Thane district also lies in this area ( Bara Bunglow ). There is also a Koliwada & Kopari Gaon or fisherman colony of original inhabitants who lived there and on the coast line. Marathi is the dominant language in the area and the area. After the
Partition of India, around 10,000
Sindhi refugees were provided housing in 25 buildings, called blocks. Over time, other residential societies and complexes were constructed in and around the blocks. Even today, lot of the people in Kopri are Sindhis.
