John the Baptist

John the Baptist (also called the Baptizer) was a 1st century Jewish preacher and ascetic regarded as a prophet by four religions: Christianity, Islam, Mandaeanism, and the Bahá'í Faith. The title of prophet is asserted in the Synoptic Gospels, the Qur'an, and the Bahá'í Writings. He is commonly referred to as John the Forerunner or Precursor by Christians who consider him as the forerunner of Jesus Christ.

Jean le Baptiste, saint Jean Baptiste ou Iaokanann, personnage du Nouveau Testament, fut prédicateur en Palestine au temps de Jésus-Christ. Dans le christianisme, c'est le prophète qui a annoncé la venue de Jésus-Christ, qui l'a baptisé sur les bords du Jourdain, après l'avoir désigné comme « l'agneau de Dieu », et lui avoir donné ses propres disciples. La vie de Jean-Baptiste est connue à travers les Évangiles, les Actes des Apôtres. Le Jean-Baptiste de l'historien juif Flavius Josèphe a une biographie différente de celle des Évangiles.

Johannes der Täufer יוֹחָנָן הַמַּטְבִּיל (lat. Io(h)annes Baptista, heb. Jochanan ben Sacharja) ist eine der zentralen Figuren des Christentums, des Islams, des Mandäismus, und der Evangelien. Sein Einfluss betraf jedoch nicht nur das Christentum. Er hatte zahlreiche Anhänger im jüdischen Volk, nicht nur in Israel, sondern auch in der jüdischen Diaspora. Auch im Koran wird er erwähnt, und Flavius Josephus berichtet von ihm.Die Religionsgemeinschaft der Mandäer sieht in ihm ihren wichtigsten Reformator. Lange Zeit wurden sie daher sogar als Johannes-Christen bezeichnet.

Iohannes Baptista, hebr. יוחנן המטביל Jehohanan ben Zekarijahu) (I wiek p.n.e./I wiek n.e.), pustelnik i prorok żydowski, nauczający pod silnym wpływem esseńczyków, przez wielu uznawany za mesjasza.
