John Keats

John Keats (; 31 October 1795 – 23 February 1821) was one of the principal poets of the English Romantic movement. During his short life, his work received constant critical attacks from the periodicals of the day, but his posthumous influence on poets such as Alfred Tennyson has been immense. Elaborate word choice and sensual imagery characterize Keats's poetry, including a series of odes that were his masterpieces and which remain among the most popular poems in English literature. Keats's letters, which expound on his aethestic theory of "negative capability", are among the most celebrated by any writer.

John Keats (ur. 31 października 1795 w pobliżu  Londynu, zm. 23 lutego 1821 w Rzymie) – angielski poeta, jeden z głównych przedstawicieli Romantyzmu; obok Edmunda Spensera nazywany w Anglii poetą poetów. Za życia niedoceniany i atakowany przez krytykę literacką (jego poetykę pogardliwie określano mianem Cocktly School), po śmierci wywarł ogromny wpływ na poetów postromantycznych z kręgu Alfreda Tennysona. Jego legenda stała się tematem dzieł wielu ówczesnych i późniejszych twórców, tj.: Percy Bysshe Shelley, Lord Byron, Wallace Stevens czy William Butler Yeats. Keats był wyznawcą ideału piękna pojmowanego sensualistycznie, które starał się oddawać przez zastosowanie rozbudowanych form wierszowanych i rytmicznych oraz malarskość opisu. Plastyka i muzyczność jego utworów wywarła spory wpływ na twórczość tzw. prerafaelitów.

Nel corso della sua breve vita, le sue opere furono bersaglio di una costante critica politica.Fu solo successivamente, con l'importanza del mutamento culturale promosso anche dalla sua opera, che il suo lavoro fu pienamente riconosciuto. La poesia di Keats è caratterizzata da un esuberante amore per la lingua e per l'immaginazione, mitigato dalla malinconia. Spesso credette di comporre all'ombra dei grandi poeti del passato e solo verso la fine della sua vita fu in grado di produrre le sue poesie più originali.
