Johann Georg Hamann

Johann Georg Hamann (August 27, 1730, Königsberg - June 21, 1788, Münster) was an important philosopher of the German (Counter-)Enlightenment and a main proponent of the Sturm und Drang movement. He was Pietist Lutheran, and a friend (while being an intellectual opponent) of the philosopher Immanuel Kant. He was also a lutenist, having studied this instrument with Timofey Belogradsky (a student of Sylvius Leopold Weiss), a Ukrainian virtuoso then living in Königsberg.

Johan Georg Hamann, zwany "magiem północy" (ur. 27 sierpnia 1730, zm. 21 czerwca 1788) - filozof i teolog niemiecki. Mieszkał w Królewcu, był przyjacielem Immanuela Kanta. Był pietystą, co skłaniało go do niewiary w rozum i przekonanie, że dziecięca wiara w Boga jest jedynym rozwiązaniem problemów filozoficznych. Dlatego też uważa się go za przedstawiciela tendencji antyoświeceniowych (zob. Oświecenie), który wywarł wpływ na irracjonalistyczne wątki Sturm und Drang.

Johann Georg Hamann (Koningsbergen 27 augustus 1730 - Münster 21 juni 1788) was een Duits filosoof, afkomstig uit de Pruisische stad Koningsbergen. Hij is te plaatsen tussen Kant en het Duits idealisme. Hij wordt gerekend tot de zogenaamde geloofsfilosofen, samen met zijn tijdgenoten  Schleiermacher, F.H Jacobi en J.G. Herder. Tegenover Kant beroepen zij zich op het geloof, en dit geloof stempelt hun denken.
