Jharkhand

Jharkhand (Hindi: झारखंड, Bengali: ঝাড়খণ্ড,) is a state in eastern India. It was carved out of the southern part of Bihar state on 15 November 2000. Jharkhand shares its border with the states of Bihar to the north, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to the west, Orissa to the south, and West Bengal to the east.

Jharkhand (Hindi: झारखंड, Jhārkhaṇḍ, []) ist ein indischer Bundesstaat mit einer Fläche von 79.722 km² und 30.474.000 Einwohnern (Stand 2008). Hauptstadt ist die Industriestadt Ranchi. In Jharkhand liegen die wichtigsten Kohlenabbaugebiete Indiens. Der höchste Berg in Jharkand ist mit 1.365 m der Parasnath, ein wichtiger Pilgerort der Religionsgemeinschaft der Jainas.
