Jersey

The Bailiwick of Jersey (Jèrriais: Jèrri) is a British Crown dependency off the coast of Normandy, France. As well as the island of Jersey itself, the Bailiwick includes the nearly uninhabited islands of the Minquiers, Écréhous, the Pierres de Lecq and other rocks and reefs. Together with the Bailiwick of Guernsey it forms the grouping known as the Channel Islands. The defence of all these islands is the responsibility of the United Kingdom. However, Jersey is not part of the UK, nor the European Union, but is rather a separate possession of the Crown, comparable to the Isle of Man. Jersey belongs to the Common Travel Area.

Jersey [] (von lat. Insula Caesarea) ist die größte und mit etwa 90.000 Einwohnern zugleich bevölkerungsreichste der Kanalinseln. Sie liegt im Ärmelkanal 20 km vor der Westküste der nordfranzösischen Halbinsel  Cotentin. Jersey gilt als die sonnenreichste aller britischen Inseln und ist berühmt für ihre ausgedehnten Strände. Die Hauptstadt ist Saint Helier. Jersey und die anderen Kanalinseln sind weder ein Teil des Vereinigten Königreiches noch eine Kronkolonie, sondern sind als Kronbesitz (engl. crown dependency) direkt der britischen Krone unterstellt. Sie sind gesonderte Rechtssubjekte und sind nicht Teil der Europäischen Union.

Jersey, il cui nome ufficiale è Bailiwick of Jersey (Baliato di Jersey) è un'isola posta nel Canale della Manica che assieme alle altre isole del Canale rappresenta gli ultimi resti del regno normanno. Le isole Normanne, prossime alla costa francese, sono inglesi dal XIII secolo, ma non fanno parte del Regno Unito dipendendo, con governi interni autonomi, direttamente dalla Corona. Jersey si separò dalla Normandia nel 1204.
