Jean-Pierre Serre

Jean-Pierre Serre (born September 15, 1926) is one of the leading mathematicians of the twentieth century, active in algebraic geometry, number theory and topology. He has received numerous awards and honors for his mathematical research and exposition, including the Fields Medal in 1954 and the Abel Prize in 2003.

Jean-Pierre Serre è un un matematico francese nato il 15 settembre 1926 a Bages. È considerato uno dei più grandi matematici del XX secolo.Dopo aver fatto la tesi nel campo della topologia algebrica sotto la direzione di Henri Cartan, ha prodotto lavori fondamentali nel campo della teoria dei numeri e della geometria algebrica.Ex allievo dell' École normale supérieure, medaglia Fields nel 1954, Premio Abel nel 2003, membro dell'Institut (Accademia delle Scienze francese), professore onorario al Collège de France e già membro del gruppo Bourbaki.
