Jan Smuts
Jan Christiaan Smuts, OM, CH, ED, KC, FRS, PC (24 May 1870 – 11 September 1950) was a prominent South African and British Commonwealth , military leader and philosopher. In addition to holding various cabinet posts, he served as Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa from 1919 until 1924 and from 1939 until 1948. He served in the First World War and as a British field marshal in the Second World War.

Jan Smuts
Jan Christiaan Smuts (1870-1950) était un homme politique d’Afrique du Sud, général boer, maréchal de l’Empire britannique, ministre successivement de la défense, de l’intérieur, des finances, de la justice et encore de la défense ainsi que premier ministre de 1919 à 1924 et de 1939 à 1948. Membre du cabinet impérial de Winston Churchill durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il est l’un des fondateurs de la Société des Nations en 1920 et de l’ONU en 1945. Il fut notamment le principal rédacteur du préambule de la charte des Nations-unies.

Jan Smuts
Jan Christiaan Smuts (ur. 24 maja 1870, zm. 11 września 1950) – południowoafrykański polityk, filozof i wojskowy. Premier Związku Południowej Afryki w latach 1919-1924 oraz 1939-1948. W czasie I i II wojny światowej służył w armii brytyjskiej w stopniu marszałka polnego.
Smuts urodził się na rodzinnej farmie w Bovenplaats, niedaleko Malmesbury. Pochodził z bogatej, tradycyjnej afrykanerskiej rodziny, zajmującej się rolnictwem. W wieku 12 lat rozpoczął naukę w szkole w Riebek Wets. W 1886 r. przeniósł się do Victoria College w Stellenbosch. Następnie wyjechał do Europy, aby studiować prawo na Uniwersytecie w Cambridge. Studia ukończył w 1893 r.
