James Naismith
James Naismith (November 6, 1861 – November 28, 1939) was a Canadian sports coach and innovator. He invented the sport of basketball in 1891 and is often credited with introducing the first football helmet. He wrote the original basketball rulebook, founded the University of Kansas basketball program, and lived to see basketball adopted as an Olympic demonstration sport in 1904 and as an official event at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, as well as the birth of both the National Invitation Tournament (1938) and the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship (1939).

James Naismith
James Naismith (né le à Almonte, Ontario, et mort le ) est un docteur et professeur canadien en médecine. Il est surtout connu comme étant l'inventeur du basket-ball, mais également comme l'instaurateur du casque lors des matchs de football américain.

James Naismith
James Naismith (ur. 6 listopada 1861 w Almonte, Ontario, zm. 28 listopada 1939 w Lawrence, Kansas, USA), kanadyjski lekarz, twórca koszykówki. Był też propagatorem wykorzystania hełmów w sportach kontaktowych.
W 1891 pracował jako nauczyciel wychowania fizycznego w YMCA International Training School w Springfield (stan Massachusetts). Poproszono go, by wymyślił jakieś zajęcie dla nudzących się w salach gimnastycznych uczniów.
Inspiracją stała się dla niego dziecięca gra popularna w Ontario nazywana "Kaczka na kamieniu" (Duck-on-a-Rock). Pierwsza gra odbyła się 15 grudnia 1891. Naismith umieścił w sali dwa kosze i podzielił swoich uczniów na dwa 9-osobowe zespoły. 15 stycznia 1892 zasady koszykówki zostały opublikowane.
