Jaffa

Jaffa (Hebrew: יָפוֹ, Yafo  Arabic: يَافَا ; also Japho, Joppa; also, per c.1350 BCE Amarna Letters, Yapu) is an ancient port city located south of Tel Aviv, Israel on the Mediterranean Sea. Today it is a neighborhood of the city of Tel Aviv-Yafo.It is mentioned four times in the Hebrew Bible, as one of the cities given to the Tribe of Dan (Book of Joshua 19:46), as port-of-entry for the cedars of Lebanon for Solomon's Temple (2 Chronicles 2:16), as the place whence the prophet Jonah embarked for Tarshish (Book of Jonah 1:3) and as port-of-entry for the cedars of Lebanon for the Second Temple of Jerusalem (Book of Ezra 3:7). It was also an important city in the Arab Middle East. During the Crusades, it was the County of Jaffa, a stronghold of the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

Jaffa (en hébreu יָפוֹ, en hébreu standard Yafo, en hébreu tibérien Yāp̄ô; en arabe يَافَا Yāfā; dans les tablettes de Tell al Amarna de 1350 av. Giaffa (in ebraico יָפוֹ, lingua ebraica standard Yafo, ebraico tiberiense Yāp̄ô; arabo يَافَا; spesso traslitterata anche come Jaffa, Japho, Joppa), è un'antica città situata in Israele. Località marittima situata pochi chilometri a sud di Tel Aviv, attualmente fa parte della municipalità di Tel Aviv-Yafo nel distretto di Tel Aviv, l'antico tell di Giaffa è ora situato in un parco nella parte sud-occidentale di Tel Aviv.Giaffa è il porto storico del Paese sul Mar Mediterraneo, citato nell'Antico Testamento come porto di arrivo del cedro del Libano usato per la costruzione del tempio di Salomone.
