Jacob Ziv

Jacob Ziv, along with Abraham Lempel, developed the lossless LZ77 compression algorithm.Ziv was born in Tiberias, Israel, on November 27, 1931. He received the B.Sc., Dip. Eng., and M.Sc. degrees, all in Electrical Engineering, from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel, in 1954, and 1957, respectively, and the D.Sc. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, U.S.A., in 1962.

Jacob Ziv (* 27. November 1931 in Tiberias, Israel) ist Elektroingenieur und hat im Bereich der Informationstheorie bedeutende Grundlagenforschung geleistet. Zusammen mit Abraham Lempel entwickelte er den LZ77- und den LZ78-Algorithmus, auf dessen Basis Terry Welch später den LZW-Algorithmus veröffentlichte.

Jacob Ziv (Tiberias, Israele, 27 novembre 1931), è un ingegnere elettronico israeliano noto nel mondo dell'informatica per aver sviluppato, assieme da Abraham Lempel, l'algoritmo di compressione dati lossless detto LZ77.Rispettivamente nel 1954 e nel 1957 ottiene laurea e master in ingegneria elettronica presso il Technion (Israel Institute of Technology di Haifa), per poi conseguire il dottorato presso il Massachusetts Institute of Technology di Cambridge (Stati uniti) nel 1962.
