JET STREAM

Jet streams are fast flowing, relatively narrow air currents found in the atmosphere at around 11 kilometers (36,000 ft) above the surface of the Earth. They form at the boundaries of adjacent air masses with significant differences in temperature, such as of the polar region and the warmer air to the south. The jet stream is mainly found in the tropopause, at the transition between the troposphere (where temperature decreases with height) and the stratosphere (where temperature increases with height).

Un courant-jet (en anglais : ) est un flux d'air rapide et confiné que l'on trouve dans l'atmosphère à des altitudes comprises entre 6 et 15 km, juste au-dessous de la tropopause dans la troposphère. Les courant-jets s'étirent sur plusieurs milliers de kilomètres de longueur, quelques centaines de large et seulement quelques kilomètres d'épaisseur.

Ein Jetstream (engl.: jet stream, jet) bzw. Strahlstrom ist ein schmales Starkwindband im Bereich der oberen Troposphäre bis zur Stratosphäre. Jetstreams bilden sich infolge globaler Ausgleichsbewegungen zwischen verschiedenen Temperaturregionen bzw. Hoch- und Tiefdruckgebieten und stellen die stärksten natürlich auftretenden Winde dar, wobei sie im Vergleich zu anderen Wetterphänomenen sehr verlässlich und stabil in ihrem Auftreten sind. Allgemeiner definiert handelt es sich um atmosphärische Windbänder mit einer nahezu horizontalen Strömungsachse (Jetachse) und Windspitzen von bis zu 150 m/s (540 km/h), wobei die Windgeschwindigkeit – sowohl vertikal als auch horizontal – mit zunehmender Entfernung zum Strömungszentrum rasch abfällt. Sie gehören näherungsweise zur Gruppe der  geostrophischen Winde, bei welchen ein Gleichgewicht zwischen Druckgradient- und Corioliskraft herrscht.

Prąd strumieniowy (ang. jet stream) to intensywny, dość wąski i prawie poziomy strumień przenoszący z zachodu na wschód olbrzymie masy powietrza w atmosferze ziemskiej. Średnia prędkość wiatru wynosi 25 m/s (100 km/h). Występuje w górnej części troposfery oraz dolnej części stratosfery, co odpowiada poziomowi ok. 200 hPa (około 12 km nad poziomem morza). Formuje się na granicy między sąsiadującymi masami powietrza o znacznej różnicy temperatur, jak między obszarem polarnym i cieplejszym powietrzem w niższych szerokościach geograficznych.

Una corrente a getto (in inglese jet stream) è un flusso d'aria di sezione relativamente piccola, che fluisce velocemente; si forma nell'atmosfera terrestre alla quota di circa 11 km dalla superficie, appena sotto la tropopausa, in genere ai confini tra masse d'aria adiacenti con significative differenze di temperatura, come quella della regione polare e dell'aria più calda a sud.
