Jülich

Jülich (in old spellings also known as Guelich or Gülich, cf. Dutch: Gulik, cf. French: Juliers) is nowadays a rather modest town in the district of Düren, in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, in  Germany. Jülich is well known as location of a world-famous research centre, the Forschungszentrum Jülich and as shortwave transmission site of Deutsche Welle. As a border region between the competing powers in the Lower Rhine and Meuse areas, the city and the duchy that bore the same name played a historic role from the Middle Ages up to the 17th century.

Jülich - miasto niemieckie leżące w powiecie Düren, w Nadrenii Północnej-Westfalii. Na obszarze 90,4 km2 w 2005 roku mieszkało 33 864 mieszkańców.Miasto po raz pierwszy wymienione zostało w czasach rzymskich pod nazwą Juliacum. Hrabia Jülich Wilhelm IV nadał miastu prawa miejskie w 1234 roku. Do roku 1815 stolica księstwa Jülich (w rzeczywistości do momentu okupacji francuskiej w 1794 roku).]

Lo Jülich-Berg o Ducato di Jülich fu lo stato allargato derivato dalla Contea di Jülich e divenne un ducato quando venne combinato con la Contea di Berg nel Sacro Romano Impero, per questo i territori si trovano nell'odierna Germania (parte del Nord Reno-Vestfalia) e nei Paesi Bassi (parte di Limburg). I suoi territori erano situati a cavallo di entrambe le rive del fiume Rur, attorno a Jülich, la capitale, nella parte bassa del Reno. Venne unita alla Contea di Berg nel 1423.
