Jötunheimr

Jötunheimr (often anglicized Jotunheim) is the world of the giants (two types: rock (or hill giants) and frost (or rime giants), collectively called Jotuns) in the Norse Mythology. From there they menace the humans in Midgard and the gods in Asgard (from whom they are separated by the river Iving). Gastropnir, home of Menglad, and Þrymheimr, home of Þjazi, were both located in Jotunheim, which was ruled by King Thrym. Glæsisvellir was a location in Jotunheim, where lived the giant Gudmund, father of Höfund.

Dans la mythologie nordique, Jötunheim est le territoire qu'Odin laissa aux géants de la glace à la Création. Avec Utgard pour forteresse, c'était un des mondes protégés par Yggdrasil. On situait Jötunheim dans Midgard ou au-dessus de la mer.

Lo Jötunheimr, nella mitologia norrena, è il mondo di due tipi di giganti: roccia e ghiaccio. Da questo posto minacciano gli umani che si trovano a Miðgarðr e gli dèi ad Ásgarðr (dai quali sono separati dal fiume Iving). La capitale dello Jötunheimr è Útgarðr. Gastropnir, dimora di Menglad, e Thrymheim, dimora di Þiazi, erano entrambe locate nello Jötunheimr, il quale era governato dal re Thrym. Glæsisvellir era un luogo nello Jötunheimr dove viveva Gudmund, padre di Höfund.

Jotunheim (Oudnoords Jötunheimr of, meervoud, Jötunheimar) met o.a. Totunheim is volgens het IJslandse dichtershandboek Proza-Edda in de Noordse mythologie het thuisland van reuzen (Thursen en Jötun) en andere duistere chaoskrachten. Het is ook letterlijk een berggebied dat zich bevindt in Centraal-Noorwegen en aldaar Jotunheimen wordt genoemd.
