Israel (, Yisra'el), officially the State of Israel (Hebrew: , Medinat Yisra'el; , Dawlat Isrā'īl), is a country in Southwest Asia located on the southeastern edge of the Mediterranean Sea. It has borders with Lebanon in the north, Syria and Jordan in the east, and Egypt on the southwest, and contains geographically diverse features within its relatively small area. The West Bank and Gaza Strip, which are partially administrated by the Palestinian National Authority, are also adjacent. With a population of about 7.2 million, the majority of whom are Jews, Israel is the world's only Jewish state. It is also home to Arab Muslims, Christians and Druze, as well as other religious and ethnic minority groups. Jerusalem is the nation's capital, seat of government, and largest city.

Israël est un pays du Proche-Orient situé sur la côte orientale de la Méditerranée. Depuis sa création en 1948, il se définit comme l’État du peuple juif, héritier de l’Israël biblique. Israel (hebreiska: יִשְׂרָאֵל‎, Yisra'el; arabiska: إِسْرَائِيل‎, Isrā'īl), officiellt Staten Israel är en stat i Mellanöstern i Asien, med kust mot Medelhavet och Röda havet samt landgräns mot Libanon i norr, Syrien i nordöst, Jordanien i öst och Egypten i sydväst. Även angränsande är Västbanken i öster och Gazaremsan i sydväst. Med ett invånartal på omkring 7,28 miljoner människor, av vilka de flesta är judar, är Israel världens enda judiska stat. I landet bor även många andra etniska grupper, inklusive en stor mängd arabiska medborgare, liksom många religiösa grupper, inklusive muslimer, kristna, druser, samaritaner och andra.
