Italian people

The Italians are a Southern European ethnic group found primarily in Italy and in a wide-ranging diaspora throughout Western Europe, the Americas and Australia. Their native language is Italian, and historically Italian dialects and languages. Their religion is predominantly Roman Catholic. The Italian people have varied European origins; Northern Italy had a strong Celtic presence until the Romans conquered and colonised the area in the 2nd century BC, which lead to thousands of Romans and Italians migrating to the North. The Central portion of the Italian peninsula was settled by the Etruscans and Latin peoples. The South was mostly Greek and other Italic peoples such as the Bruttii and Samnites. Sicily was predominately made up of the Sicani and Sicels, before the Greeks moved in. The appellation Italian is possibly derived from the Greeks who used the term to describe the Ancient Italic peoples, who pre-date the coming of Indo-European languages.

Les Italiens (italien : Italiani) sont un groupe ethnique d'Europe du Sud vivant majoritairement en Italie, en Suisse, en France et dont la large diaspora habite majoritairement en Europe de l'Ouest, aux États-Unis et en Australie. Mit Italiener bezeichnet man: Juristisch einen Menschen mit italienischer Staatsbürgerschaft, also ein Bürger Italiens. Diese Staatsbürgerschaft wird von Italien nach den dafür geltenden Gesetzen verliehen. Das Italienertum im Sinne der Staatsbürgerschaft ist unabhängig von der ethnischen Zugehörigkeit, so dass es zum Beispiel Italiener albanischer Herkunft gibt.Ethnologisch einen Angehörigen des italienischen Volks mit ihrem Ethnonym. Die Eigenschaft, in diesem Sinne Italiener zu sein, ist unabhängig von der Staatsangehörigkeit. Man kann deswegen zum Beispiel von Italienern, die Bürger Argentiniens sind, sprechen. Włosi – naród zamieszkujący Włochy i stanowiący 94% ludności tego kraju. We Włoszech jest ich około 54 mln, a w innych krajach świata ponad 10 mln, z czego połowa w USA i po około 1 mln we Francji, Argentynie i Kanadzie. Mówią językiem włoskim. Religią większości Włochów jest katolicyzm.Podstawę etniczną stanowią dawne plemiona italskie, zamieszkujące Półwysep Apeniński. Na przestrzeni dziejów przemieszały się one z ludnością pochodzenia etruskiego, liguryjskiego, weneckiego, celtyckiego, greckiego i semickiego. Potem w V w. – z Germanami, w VI–XI w. – z Frankami, Arabami i Normanami. Złożony skład etniczny stał się podstawą wyodrębnienia dialektów i regionalizacji Włoch. Język literacki ukształtował się w pełni już w XIII–XIV w.

De Italianen zijn één van de Indo-Europese volkeren in Europa. Italianen spreken Italiaans en zijn overwegend rooms-katholiek. Er zijn naar schatting zo'n 120 miljoen Italianen. Ongeveer de helft hiervan (56 miljoen) woont in Italië. In Zwitserland wonen 750.000 Italianen en de overige 60 miljoen zijn voor het merendeel immigranten, die voornamelijk in het Amerikaanse continent leven.
