The term Italian
Diaspora refers to the large-scale migration of Italians away from Italy in the period roughly between the unification of Italy in 1861 and the beginning of
World War I in 1914. The term generally refers also to the years directly following WW1. (Since 1930 and especially following World War II, there have been other periods of emigration under different circumstances. This article does not deal with those.)
