The Iroquois ( or ), also known as the Haudenosaunee or the "People of the Longhouse", are a league of several nations and tribes of indigenous people of North America. After the Iroquoian-speaking peoples of present-day central and upstate New York coalesced as distinct tribes, by the 16th century or earlier, they came together in an association known today as the Iroquois League, or the "League of Peace and Power". The original Iroquois League was often known as the Five Nations, as it was composed of the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga and Seneca nations. After the Tuscarora nation joined the League in 1722, the Iroquois became known as the Six Nations. The League is embodied in the Grand Council, an assembly of fifty hereditary sachems. Other Iroquian peoples lived along the St. Lawrence River, around the Great Lakes and in the American Southeast, but they were not part of the Haudenosaunee and often competed and warred with these tribes.

Die Irokesen im engeren Sinne (auch bekannt als Five Nations bzw. Six Nations, in Deutsch auch Fünf/Sechs Nationen) waren ein Völkerbund aus zuerst fünf und später sechs sprachverwandten Völkern nordamerikanischer Ureinwohner. Sie selbst nennen sich Haudenosaunee, zu Deutsch Völker des Langhauses. In einem weiteren Sinne gehörten zu ihnen auch Wyandot, Tionontati, Neutrale und früh verschwundene Gruppen, wie die Kahkwas auf der Niagara-Halbinsel oder die Sankt-Lorenz-Irokesen.

Les Iroquois (ou Haudenosaunee) connus aussi par l'expression Cinq-Nations comprennent effectivement cinq et puis plus tard six nations amérindiennes de langues iroquoises vivant historiquement dans le nord de l'État de New York aux États-Unis au sud du lac Ontario et du fleuve Saint-Laurent. La plupart des quelques 75 000 Iroquois vivent aujourd'hui en Ontario au Canada et dans l'État de New York. D'autres vivent au Wisconsin, au Québec et en Oklahoma. Seule une petite minorité des Iroquois parle aujourd'hui une des langues iroquoises dont notamment près de locuteurs du Mohawk dans le village Kahnawake, au sud de Montréal.

Irokeser är en konventionell och kontroversiell benämning på medlemmar i en stamkonfederation, bestående av sex olika nordamerikanska indianstammar. Stammarna kallas ofta i engelskspråkig litteratur för Six Nations: Mohawker, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca och Tuscarora. Konfederationen bildades runt år 1600 på hövdingen Hiawathas inrådan för att få slut på de ständiga krigen mellan stammarna. De var då endast fem stammar, Tuscarora, som kom från North Carolina förenade sig med Irokesförbundet 1722 och fick bosätta sig mellan Oneida och Onondaga.
